Week of August 31st to September 4th:
We are extremely excited to get started with what will be an amazing year of learning with you. Assignments and activities are organized by what students should accomplish each day. Remote learning is not easy but we can do this. Your teachers are very excited to help you through the challenges of online learning and give you a great opportunity to learn.
Paper Packets are now available for pick up at Par Excellence Academy. The work is the same as the website, but may be in an alternate order. Thank you for your patience.

Step 2: Practice using "I messages" at home with friends and family members "I feel _____because_____" Step 3: Think of some feelings words you can use when you need to share your feelings: Try to think of different words other than sad, mad, and angry. Step 4: Think about a time when you needed to share your feelings. How did you handle it? How would using an "I message" help you? Science/WritingStep 1: Go to "Study Jams" and preview the test questions.

Step 1: Think about a time when you were really angry. What helped you calm down. Create a web that shows all the things you can do to calm down when you get really angry.
Step 2: When we get upset or frustrated we use the Stop and Stay Cool steps to help us have control over our actions. See the picture below and try practicing these steps when you feel angry or upset.
Step 3: Answer this question:
Why do you think using the stop and stay cool steps might help you in school? Science/ WritingRead the text below about volcanoes and write a paragraph response to the question. Volcanoes
A volcano is an opening in the Earth's crust where hot liquid rock from deep within the Earth, called magma, erupts to the surface. Magma and Lava When rock beneath the Earth's surface gets really hot, it becomes molten or liquid. While it's still below the surface, it's called magma. Once the magma erupts to the surface through a volcano, it's called lava. The hotter and thinner the lava is, the farther it will flow. Lava can be very hot, sometimes as hot as 1000 degrees C. Eventually lava on the surface will stop flowing and cool and harden into rocks. Rocks formed from lava cooling are called igneous rocks. Some examples of igneous rocks include basalt and granite. Activity A volcano can be active, dormant, or extinct. An active volcano is one that has recently erupted or is currently erupting. A dormant volcano is one that hasn't erupted for a long time, but has the potential to still erupt. An extinct volcano is one that scientists think will never erupt again. QUESTION How do volcanos demonstrate the three states of matter? (Write on a separate sheet of paper) |

THE AIR CATCHER Question: What and where is air? Materials Needed: 1. A medium plastic bag. 2. One plastic sandwich bag Procedure: 1. Take the medium size garbage bag, open its mouth : “What’s in the bag?” 2. Move the bag now with two hands back and forth (like wanting to catch a bug in a bag), then quickly close the mouth of the bag with a twisting motion. 3. “What do I have in the bag now?” 4. Use sandwich bags to try to catch air without blowing into the bag. Questions to think about: 1. What was filling the bags? 2. Can we catch air under the bench or behind the door? 3. Is the air the same everywhere? 4. How else can we fill the bag? 5. Would the material in the bag be the same if we blew in it? 6. How can we keep the bag inflated? 7. What would happen if we hit the inflated small plastic bag with the palm of the other hand? Explanation: Air is found everywhere. The plastic bags may be filled with air above the table, under the table, behind the door or anywhere else. The bags can also be inflated by blowing in them, but then the bags would contain exhaled air. This air is different because it has a higher percentage of carbon dioxide (CO2) and more water vapor. |

Step 1: Think about a time when you found it difficult to wait during the school day.
What is a strategy you could use to make the waiting easier? Sometimes, when people get angry or frustrated they often don’t stop and think before they act.
Learning how to recognize when you are angry or upset and learning how to stop and stay cool is one way that you can help yourself to stop and think.
Step 2: Think of some ways that might help you to stop and think if you have to wait or you are feeling angry.
Here are some ideas that work for me: Counting in my head. Singing a song to myself. Step 3: Watch the video below- maybe you can use this song to sing to yourself if you are feeling like you need to stop and think.
Science /WritingRead the excerpt and answer the questions in complete sentences. (be sure to start your sentences with a capital letter and end in a period.
Matter What is matter? Well it makes up everything in the universe in some way shape or form, it’s everything in the universe really, well everything that we can see, and matter is also everything on earth. Matter is everything that makes up space and has weight, however we cannot leave it there though; it’s not that straight forward. There are three different main states of matter, all made up of tiny particles. They are…
How the main states of matter form is based on the amount of particles they are made up of. See below for a further lesson on this. As we know now matter is everywhere on our planet and on different weird and wonderful planets in the universe. All of the stars and gas clouds that make up our universe are made up of tiny particles bunched together called that are matter. Solid Matter. = Solid Matter such as stone is made up of particles that are really close together. Liquid Matter. = Liquid Matter such as water is made up of particles that are particularly close together but not as close together as solid matter. Gas Matter. = Gas Matter such as air is made up of particles that are close enough together but not as close as liquid or solid, which is why its in that form. Take a look all around you and you will see, feel, taste touch and even breathe matter. If there was no matter, we wouldn’t matter! Get it!! Kids Fun Facts Corner # 1. Matter has two types of properties; physical & chemical. # 2. Most of the elements on the periodic table are made of solid matters. # 3. Humans are made of all the three main states of matter. Q&A Corner Q. What are the properties of matter? Q. What type of matter make up most of the elements on the periodic table? Q. Where on Earth will you find matter? Q. What are the three main forms of matter called? Q. What are the other forms of matter called? |
